Fun & Fashion Friday!

It's Friday! I am so excited for the weekend because it looks like we are finally going to have some spring weather. My kids have been playing outside every evening when we get home, even some evenings in their jammies. They have just been stuck inside for so many months that they are itching to play and run!

I cannot wait to get the fire pit going and have a glass of wine fireside. The kids are already begging for s'mores and I have some leftover sparklers from last year I am going to surprise them with.

It's a Friday so I am talking about some of my favorite closet items today. Let's get started!

My Favorite Jeans

I have been wearing my Kut from the Kloth jeans pretty much every season since I first tried them on. I love this brand of jeans because there is enough stretch for my leg and glute muscles.

This distressed pair in a skinny cut is probably my favorite because they are just so casual and comfortable. When it’s not appropriate to be wearing ripped jeans I have fews pairs without holes and a pair with giant flares. The flares remind me of high school and they are perfect for hanging out with chill friends on the weekend.

My favorite aspect of these jeans is that they come up high enough that I am never worried about my undies showing. I lived through some sweet Britney Spears low riding jeans days and I was always conscious about my undies peeking out the back of my jeans. Not an issue any more with these.

I mentioned that there is enough give for my leg muscles. I’m a runner and a former dancer so slender little bird legs have never been a reality for me.  I appreciate the fact that these jeans fit me with or without an extra 5-10 pounds! Sometimes they have to work a little harder but they do just fine. Werk!

These shorts! I blogged about them a few weeks ago and now that it’s warm I am just loving them so much!

I have been in these shorts all week.

They are becoming a warm weather favorite.

More shorts!

J Crew Factory has quickly become one of my most favorite stores. There is no store close to where I live, but that doesn’t matter because they are online!

Goofing with my sibs last summer

I bought these shorts above in white last summer and when I saw them in more colors this year I was so excited. They fit well, there is a nice amount of stretch, and they are not too short. The pockets in the front are real, which is a big deal for women's clothing, and the ruffled look has a feminine flair. I just picked up the teal and they are so fun!

I love them because they look nice enough to wear to a preschool event, a picnic, graduation party, etc., but they are cute and fun without having to get totally dressy. Plus this teal color. This color just makes me so happy!

Finally: grown up undies

Around the time that I was raiding my savings to take my kiddos to Disneyland, I was digging in my underwear drawer for a “good pair” of comfortable underwear. You know what I mean. I was looking for the comfortable kind that I put on before bed, when I change out of the stuff I wear under my lawyer clothes.

I realized that my undergarment situation was a HOT mess. I had a combination of threadbare underwear I had since college, random sexy yet torturous and highly uncomfortable stuff I received around the time I got married, work stuff, and straight up gross postpartum and stained Mom stuff. The bra situation was so bad that it will merit a separate post altogether.

I was digging in this drawer searching for something I did not own. A decent pair of grown up underwear.

Here I was, an accomplished professional, working mom, doing literally ALL of the things, and I had neglected the garment I have to wear every single day. I realized that if I could afford to take my kids to the sunshine state to see Mickey Mouse, I could afford to buy myself some decent panties.

So I hit gold on my first try and I am so very happy now.

I found these at Nordstrom, ordered online like the true hermit I am, and performed a cleanse of my underwear drawer. More like an exorcism.

For years I never justified spending money on something I wear every single day. I don’t know what I was waiting for to be a true adult. Kids? Success? A minivan? Medicare eligibility?

Well thankfully I got my life together and lived to tell about it. This is the Natori brand at Nordstrom and I have been incredibly happy and comfortable. They come in all kinds of colors including black and nude just in case you are a basic suburban mom like me.

Happy Friday everyone. Now you know way more about me than perhaps you cared to!
