Hi. I'm Kate.

Welcome to my blog. I document my crazy life and attempt to update our 1980's home. Hope you have a nice stay!

Shrunken Sweater

Shrunken Sweater

Inspired by my self deprecating Instagram story, and fresh out of cancer war stories, I decided to document the only plans I have for 2021 a journey into my closet.

Aren’t we all a little tired of my cancer jOuRnEy anyway?

Hallelujah to moms, grunge lovers, and fans of the sitcom “Friends” everywhere, the high waisted pant is back. Cover half of the real estate in your mid-section and prepare to bare a touch of stomach with nary a sit up in sight. Confusing as it may be for Zara to be selling what you would have considered “mom jeans” about 10 minutes ago, the kids everywhere are wearing them. “Mom jeans” are in, ladies.

Or they were last fall, in October 2019, when I bought these pants from the Gap.

Fresh out of labor and delivery and headed back to work immediately, because: ‘Merica, I purchased these pants primarily for the elastic high waist. They are both forgiving on the postpartum tummy and felt more like the sweats I deserved to be wearing after pushing a third human out of my body.

Large pants go well with small tops. Despite the fact that it’s totally fine and normal for a woman to head back to work days after giving birth, in my profession short shirts are a definite “no-no” and could shock the conscience of an innocent male, still recovering from the Great Janet Jackson-Justin Timberlake scandal of 2004.

I usually pair these pants with a black cardigan, perhaps navy or another bold color. Sometimes a tank and a blazer if I am feeling frisky and professional at the same time. (As those feelings do not generally go hand in hand, such an occurrence is almost never.) Given the cold January day, I chose instead a piece from 2005.

Remember 2005? Before the Great Recession. Kids. iPhones. The global pandemic.

I washed and dried this sweater about 2-3 years ago and so it’s much shorter than it should be. I didn't donate it. I don’t know why.

Here - making its’ debut after three babies over a fresh layer of silicone, is the 2005 Banana Republic sweater. Back for 2021 glory and now officially old enough to drive a car.
